Tahmena Joyan
Chair, Board of Trustees
Tahmena Joyan is the Chair of AfSU. She is currently a Master's student at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where she reads the MSc in Social Anthropology. Tahmena is a passionate aspiring researcher in anthropology and diaspora studies.
With a background in International Relations and History from SOAS, Tahmena has written on women's issues, migration, and international institutions. Her journey has taken her across various diaspora organisations, both within the UK and internationally. Her passion to improve student welfare and representation of Afghanistan's diaspora community in the UK has been the motor for her work with university students as an undergraduate, and now with her continued leadership of AfSU.
Having lacked access to academic and professional mentorship in her earlier years in education, Tahmena believes accessibility to exceptional mentorship and guidance is vital for the diaspora community's success and continued development in the UK. She is passionate about helping the diaspora achieve its best, and supporting its development at a grassroots level.
